WORCESTER, MA – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the New York Islanders (@NYIslanders), and Railers HC General Manager and Head Coach Jamie Russell officially announced today that the club has signed defenseman Willie Raskob (@Raskabob15) to an ECHL contract for the 2017-18 season. Willie Raskob joins the Worcester Railers HC fresh off a 2016-17 NCAA NCHC Championship run with the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) Bulldogs. Raskob spent four seasons with UMD (2013-17) playing in 148 games for the Bulldogs and recorded 10 goals, 49 assists, 124 penalty minutes, and a +20 rating. The 5-foot-10, 185lb Hastings, MN native played in 41 games his senior year and recorded four goals, 13 assists, 69 penalty minutes, and a +10 rating. Raskob was voted to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff All-Tournament Team after tying for the scoring lead at that two-day event (three points, all assists, including a pair in UMD’s 4-2 semifinal triumph over North Dakota). Raskob attended the Islanders development camp this past July. “Willie is a mobile defenseman that comes out of a terrific program in Duluth,” said Russell. “He will play in all situations and he can catch opponents by surprise with some big open ice hits. He is a gamer and we are thrilled to welcome him to Worcester.” The Railers are expected to announce more player signings upon approval from the ECHL in the upcoming weeks. |
