Rage may face season without star goaltender

BROOMFIELD, Colo. — The Rocky Mountain Rage spent the off season adding defensive help that they felt they needed to take the team into the playoffs. They  re-tooled the defense around CHL All Star goaltender Scott Reid. Now, with the start of training camp and the regular season just around the corner, Reid may be leaving the Rage. Reid signed a Professional Tryout Agreement with the Quad City Flames. If he makes the Flames roster, the Rage will loose the four time CHL All Star with the new season knocking on their door. Reid is a fan favorite and a cornerstone of the Rage. Last season, Reid posted a record of  25-14-4 to give him a Rage team record for wins, placed him in third for wins in the CHL last season, and gave him 121 career wins in the CHL and placed him as 7th for most career wins in CHL history. He earned his fourth selection to the CHL All Star Team. Reid has made the trip up to the AHL before, most recently with the Milwaukee Admirals. During that stint, Reid posted a record of 3-6-0-1, with a 2.81 gaa, and .898 save percentage. Reid also spent time in the AHL with Peoria and Norfolk.  His AHL numbers give him a record of 6-8-1, while registering a 2.29 goals against average and .971 save percentage. If he makes the Flame’s roster, the Rage will need to sign another goaltender, and will need to sign one quickly. Training camp opens on October 6th, and the regular season begins for them on the road in Laredo on the 17th of October. Reid does remain under contract with the Rage, and if he fails to make the roster for Quad City, he will return to the Rage for the remainder of his contract. The rage recently signed Marty Magers to back up Reid for this upcoming season, but now the Rage will be unsure of what the future holds for Reid. They will need to find a second goaltender they can rely on. Reid has the skills to make it in the AHL; great news for Reid, bad news for the Rage and their fans. The off season had the Rage adding help to bolster their defense, while maintaining the offensive firepower they possessed last season, but the defensive help was designed to give Reid the help he needed. They may now have to rethink what they did.
