Raanta shuts down Kings in 3-0 win for Rangers

In Los Angeles Saturday, the New York Rangers continued to make the road their oasis as Antti Raanta made 30 saves for his fourth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the Kings.

“He, no doubt, made all the timely saves tonight. We had some turnovers and they had some Grade A looks, and he made the saves,” Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault said of Raanta’s performance.

None of it was easy as the Rangers looked like a tired bunch of skaters but Raanta was pleased with the outcome.

“I tried to be more in the crease and just let the puck come to me,” Raanta said. “It worked out pretty good.”

Derek Stepan, Ryan McDonagh and Rick Nash scored for the Rangers who withstood a barrage of their own mistakes  and breakaways and quality shots from the Kings for two periods.

“It was a pretty evenly-played game,” Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said. “We missed some chances 5-on-5 that were wide-open chances.”

The Kings dropped to a35-32-7 and are nine points back of the second wild card spot in the west.

Dan Girardi was back in the lineup for New York Saturday after missing 12 games and the defense was improved for his return.
