“One of our team’s focuses this year is definitely after maybe a six-game winning streak, or something like that, we’re not going to step off the gas pedal,” Doughty said. “But when we come into a building after a couple of losses you don’t want to play us. We want to be a team that people are scared to play after we lost just because we don’t like losing games. So that’s one thing we’ve really focused on this year, and so far it’s been so-so, but we can get better at it.”

It was Quick’s 39th career shutout.

“They had a good amount of zone time,” Quick said. “I think the shot guys are pretty generous here, I saw that. It’s nice, but I don’t think that we got outplayed as bad as the shot differential was. I think we were right there for most of the game. They had moments where they had a little extended zone time but we were able to kind of weather it, and we got two big goals there in the second period.”

Less than two minutes after Doughty scored, Anze Kopitar made it 2-0; Marian Gaborik added an empty-netter.

“That’s a [heck] of a hockey team,” Montreal defenseman Nathan Beaulieu said. “That’s the tightest-checking game I’ve ever played in this League. They force everything and they don’t give you much room. For us to get almost 50 shots, I don’t know the exact number but I thought we played a pretty good hockey game, but this game’s about results and unfortunately we didn’t get the job done again.”

Mike Condon took the loss for the Habs on 17 saves.

“It’s frustrating but all I can do is stay positive and keep working,” Condon said.
