So, the Los Angeles Kings are for real. On Thursday night, Jonathan Quick made 40 saves to backstop the Kings to a 4-0 win over the Canadiens in Montreal.
The offense was ignited early when Adrian Kempe and Tyler Toffoli struck 11 seconds apart to give the Kings a 2-0 lead.
“I thought we had a good start and then [Quick] was there to back us up,” Kings captain Anze Kopitar said. “And obviously those two goals in the end of the period, that’s very deflating I can imagine for the other team, and gave us momentum going into the second period, so just kind of rode the wave from there.”
The Kings improved to 8-1-1 on the season.
The shutout was Quick’s second of the year and 46th of his career.
“We enjoy coming to the rink and working,” Quick said. “We have a great group of guys so it makes it fun, keeps it light and guys enjoy pushing each other. So that’s something that I’ve noticed so far in the beginning part of the season here.”
Kopitar and Kurtis MacDermid also scored for the Kings.
“I think we’ve got to make life harder on their defensemen and their goalies to get some dirty goals, and hopefully that can help us win games,” the Canadiens’ Max Paciorettysaid after the loss.

Carey Price made 24 saves in taking the loss.
“I thought we had a pretty solid first period and we just had a couple of mental lapses, I feel, and we shot ourselves in the foot,” Price said.
