In Edmonton Sunday night, Jonathan Quick made 26 saves including a stellar effort against Connor McDavid late to preserve a 3-2 lead and get the win for the Los Angeles Kings, 3-2.
“He made a good save,” McDavid said. “I thought it could have gone in. Obviously it’s pretty tough to see if his glove kind of covered it up over there. Tough play.”
“We got the replay right there (on the bench) so if on the ice it’s no goal, it has to be conclusive from the League and clearly it’s under his glove,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “It was a solid game, it was three in four nights for us. The two teams played hard.”
Tanner Pearson, Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter scored for the Kings who extended their winning streak to five games after opening the season with three straight losses.
Pearson’s was the game-winner and first for him this season.
“It felt pretty good to get one in the back of the net, it’s kind of a building block, and hopefully, it’s the start of a few more,” Pearson said. “I think [Drew Doughty] shot it and it was kind of loose. I just wanted to put it on net and it just slid five-hole.”
Benoit Pouliot and Taylor Hall scored for the Oilers who fell to 3-6-0.
Cam Talbot. Made 31 saves on the night.
“They are a hard, physical team, they are one of the best in the West,” Talbot said. “They are a measuring stick for us. I thought we came out and played pretty well. We got that big power-play goal and then we went right back and gave them a power-play goal. You can’t give a team like that an opportunity with less than five minutes left to get their top guys a chance to win it for them. It was a tough bounce at the end there.”
