Quick, Kings shut out Wild, 1-0

In Los Angeles, Jonathan Quick made 21 saves  in a 1-0 shutout of the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.

“We did all the little things right,” Quick said. “I think we only took one penalty tonight, especially when you’re playing against a team that is as good on the power play as they are, so trying to limit the chances there. And then blocked shots, clean rebounds, and limiting their chances, I think that goes a long way.”

LA improved to 8-6-1.

The Kings were scoreless in four power play chances.

“It was one of those nights where, if the power play had been sharp, you could have been up 3-0,” McLellan said. “It could have been 1-0 two minutes into the third period. They were on the power play, fresh ice, and a chance to regroup.

“But the adjustment between second and third, mentally, was really important for our team. Obviously, it didn’t go well on the power play. We were all a little bit frustrated. Break came, we reloaded.”

Gabriel Vilardi was the game’s lone striker. He scored at 13:57 of the third period.

“He’s scoring. He’s responsible defensively. He’s a big body that keeps plays alive. So to this point, he’s fit in really well,” Los Angeles coach Todd McLellan said of Vilardi.

Vilardi tied a career high with his 1-th goal of the season.

Minnesota dropped to 5-6-1.

“The last game we played against them was pretty crazy, back and forth,” Kings defenseman Matt Roy said. “It’s kind of been like that throughout the years, so it’s good to put up a goose egg and play good in front of ‘Quickie.'”

Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves in the Wild loss.

“In my mind, I want to stop them all, right?” Fleury said. “It doesn’t matter what the score is. Obviously, I wish I could have stopped that one and maybe dragged this one into overtime.”
