Quick, Kings score 2-0 win over Flyers

A night after the Philadelphia Flyers beat the San Jose Sharks, the Los Angeles Kings took advantage of their own fresh legs and a 35-save effort from Jonathan Quick  to beat the Flyers, 2-0.

It new head coach John Stevens’ first win as the Kings’ bench boss.

“We had a 1-0 lead that we turned into a 2-0 lead, and then that’s kind of been the staple of this team the last several years,” Stevens said. “That can’t go away.”

Trevor Lewis and Tyler Toffoli were the strikers for Los Angeles.

It was a positive opener for the Kings who have struggled the last three seasons, having missed the post season is two of those seasons.

“It’s going to continue to take some time to continue to improve on some of the areas,” Stevens said. “Obviously, everyone wants to see more goals scored, but I do think there are some things happening. We had a couple goals scored off the rush.”

The Flyers won in San Jose on the strength of their power play Thursday in LA it was dismantled, going 0-for5.

“I thought we generated more tonight than we did last night, for sure 5-on-5, but we couldn’t find a way to put one in the back off the net,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said.

Michal Neuvirth took the loss for the Flyers on 25 saves.
