In Los Angeles, Jonathan Quick made 28 saves and the Kings defeated the Minnesota Wild, 4-0, on Tuesday night.
“We started the game really strong,” Quick said. “I think that first period we were clicking, getting pucks in, forechecking, making the play in their end, and we just kind of continued that play throughout the night.”
The Wild had not played since February 2nd.
“We’ve been out for two weeks and we’ve got a lot of guys out of the lineup so you’re playing with brand new guys again,” the Wild’s Marcus Foligno said. “You don’t want to make excuses but it’s tough.”
Jaret Anderson-Dolan opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period; it was the fifth power-play strike in three games for the Kings.
“They eventually found their legs and skated themselves back into the game and it wasn’t an easy night,” Kings head coach Todd McLellan said. “We needed some timely goals to put them out, but we’re happy for a lot of individuals and for the team.”
Trevor Moore stretched the lead to 2-0 just past the midway point of the first.
“We think we didn’t even have one of our better games tonight, so just looking to keep getting better every game as a line and as a team as well and keep pushing forward here,” Anderson-Dolan said..
Dustin Brown scored late in the third period for a 3-0 lead to the Kings.
Drew Doughty s=added an empty-net goal to ice the win.
Kaapo Kahkonen made 25 saves in the loss.
“Quick made some phenomenal saves, obviously, on some pucks that he couldn’t find and stuck to ’em a little bit and played very well, but we had our chances to bury some opportunities and we didn’t,” Wild head coach Dean Evason said. “We had an opportunity to win this hockey game and we didn’t get it done.”
