Quesnele in determined mood

Canadian defenceman Mike Quesnele believes the tide will soon turn for Genting Casino Coventry Blaze.

The Elite League play-off champions have two wins from their opening seven games heading into this weekend’s matches against Nottingham Panthers and Braehead Clan.

A 4-1 defeat at Manchester Storm last Saturday was followed by a 2-1 home reverse to Belfast Giants on Sunday and Quesnele knows improvement is needed.175px-CoventryBlaze

Quesnele, 26, is in his first season at professional level after five years with Lakehead University in the CIS and played under coach Chuck Weber for Cincinnati Cyclones in 2009.

He said: “We were not happy with the way we played on Saturday and we played a little better on Sunday. It seems we take a step forward and then two or three steps back.

“We are disappointed. It has been a tough start – it is tough when you are losing – but we have a very good group of guys. We need to get it together and when we do we will be fine.

“We have a very talented group, we have a lot of goalscorers who are frustrated they are not scoring. The guys are upset but we just need a win to build some confidence.

“This group has the talent, we believe in this group and we can turn things around.”
