Quebec wins on improved effort over final thirty minutes

QUEBEC CITY , P.Q. — After seeing Gatineau take a 1- 0 in the first period, Quebec scored the next two goals taking a one goal lead after two periods. Two goals scored by Tomas Filippi (first at the end of second period, his second 54 seconds into the third period) and Ryan Bourque with the game winning goal led Quebec to a 4-3 win over the Olympiques.
 
Quebec played a solid first period despite the one goal deficit shooting nine times on Gatineau goaltender and allowing only two shots against in the opening period. Beside the shot from the author of Gatineau first goal, the other shot came from the stick Olympiques defenseman Nicolas Deslauriers
 
Gatineau broke the ice scoring the first goal of the game. Unable to leave his defensive zone Quebec defenseman Vincent Barnard lost the puck to Cody Linteau high in the slot. The Olympiques left winger wristed a shot and found a hole on Quebec goaltender Louis Domingue left side at 3:05.
 
Quebec had a chance to get on the scoreboard 1:42 later when Gatineau right winger Tommy Tremblay was penalized for hooking but the Olympiques were successful in killing the penalty.
 
If Quebec missed their chance to tie the game with a man up, Patrick Roy’s team saw veteran center John Audy-Marchessault beat Gatineau goaltender with a screen wrist shot from the point that also deflected beating Maxime Clermont over his left shoulder at 13:01. Quebec first goal was scored at even strength.
 
Quebec took the lead for the first time in the game 4:08 into second period. Tomas Filippi back from the World Junior Championship deflected a shot from defenseman Alex Wall from the point. Alexandre Grenier did great job behind Olympiques netminder reaching Quebec veteran defenseman Wall who took the shot.
 
After being beaten on one of only two shots in first period, Remparts netminder Domingue played a solid second period blocking all 12 shots he faced. Clermont for his part saw one puck went by him making saves on Quebec 3 other shots against him in middle frame. Shots on goal after twenty minutes were 14 – 13 in favor of Gatineau.
 
Filippi made it a two-goal lead for Quebec with his second goal of the game his 19th of the year following a face off won by teammates Marchessault 54 seconds into third period.
 
Gatineau cut the Quebec lead in half with a man advantage. After being shutout in their first two power play attempts in the game, Olympiques defenseman Adam Janosik saw his shot deflected on Quebec forward Ryan Bourque before beating Remparts goaltender to his left side at 3:19. The penalty taken by Grenier for slashing at 2:30 proved to be costly for Quebec.
 
Quebec regained their two-goal lead when Bourque redirectede a great pass from veteran center Joel Champagne beating Gatineau goaltender for Quebec fourth goal at 12:40 of the third period.
 
Gatineau reduced Quebec lead for with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
 
Unable to keep the rebound from Tommy Tremblay shot from the blue line,   Quebec netminder saw Olympiques center Philippe Halley pick up the puck and pushing it in on Domingue right side at 18:02, but it was too late for the team coached by Benoit Groulx seeing his team loses first game in their last three contest.    
 
Quebec returned home compiling a record of three wins one loses in their last four games on the road. Quebec won against Rimouski 4-2 on last January 4, losing against Shawinigan 4-1 on January 7. The Remparts won their last two games on January 9 in Baie-Comeau 4-1 ending with a 4-3 wins in Gatineau against the Olympiques.    
 
Quebec will return in front of their fans hosting the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Friday January 14, 2011.
