QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Scoring two goals in 54 seconds in the third period of Wednesday night game in Victoriaville, Quebec did it again scoring the tying goal in third period and needing only 33 seconds in overtime winning 3-2 against Chicoutimi. The Sagueneens won the first meeting between the two teams October 18th by the score of 5-2. Quebec center Philipp Kurashev redirected a shot from Benjamin Gagne.
Quebec broke the ice Taking advantage of a turnover on Chicoutimi blue line. Trying to get out of his defensive zone Chicoutimi defenseman Jeremy Diotte saw Quebec left winger Aleksei Sergeev going on breakaway beating Chicoutimi goaltender Alexis Shank under his right pad with 10:44 remaining in first period.
Beneficiary of two power play opportunities Quebec was unable to add to their lead. Chicoutimi tied the game 1-1 also at even strength as Justin Ducharme redirected a first shot by teammate Zachary Lavigne partially saved by Quebec goaltender but slowly sliding under Dereck Baribeau with 1:31 left in the opening period.
Not having had any chance with a man up in first period, Chicoutimi got the first one in middle frame. Ranked eighth overall on power play with eight goals scored in 106 opportunities, Sagueneens wasn’t able to put puck behind Quebec netminder.
Chicoutimi took the lead for first time in the game with 9:57 to go in the middle frame as Zachary Lavigne wrist shot beat Quebec goalie Baribeau over his right shoulder. Quebec netminder hasn’t had any chance on Lavigne eighth goal of the year.
Quebec got slight edge in shots on goal 19-17 after two periods of play. But on main scoreboard Chicoutimi led 2-1 after forty minutes.
Looking to bring their offensive contribution Quebec fourth line brought both teams to square one as Gabriel Montreuil scored his third of the year with 11:35 to play in third periods. Taking first shot on Sgueneens goalie Xavier Cormier saw his teammate Montreuil pushing the puck under Shank left arm.
As neither team was able to get the game winning goal in regulation time, Quebec completed their comeback with only 33 seconds in overtime as Philipp Kurashev redirect the pass from defenseman and Quebec captain Benjamin Gagne to get the additional points in that contest.
Quebec next game will be on Saturday as they will face Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
Six other games were on QMJHL schedule on Friday night.
