QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Coming out from a big win in Rimouski on Thursday night Quebec get back in action right on the next day as they face-off against Val-d’Or. Scoring first two goals in a dominating first period, 15-1, Remparts only adds another goal in third periods in an empty net leading them to second wins in as many games by the score of 3-0 over the Val-d’Or Foreurs. Facing only one shot in first 35 minutes, Quebec goaltender Dereck Baribeau registered his second shutout of the year making 14 saves.

“We like to play with speed but I think it has been one of our best period,” answered Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher who registered his victory number 150 the night before against Rimouski.

“Speed our execution, the power play went well, tip my hat off to Mompetit (Val-d’Or goaltender), he is possibly one of the most dominating player in our league, and he proved it again tonight, otherwise we could have scored more goals. I adored the execution speed, the way we did things tonight, Ribidoux (Mikael Robidoux) gave the tempo to the game with his check, he always completed his check. He did it in the beginning and he also ended the game with another great check. That is why we like him. We really played great hockey tonight,” Remparts head coach Boucher said.

Totally dominating the first period 15-1 in shots on goal, Quebec scored twice in the opening period.

Quebec opened the scoring taking advantage of their first power play opportunity in the game. Ranked 9th overall in QMJHL on power play scoring 20 goals in 102 occasions, Quebec right winger Derek Gentile took his own rebound before beating Val-d’Or goaltender Etienne Momtpetit at 5:58. Val-d’Or defenseman David Henley was in the box for Slashing.

Quebec came back 2:01 later adding a second goal to their leads. Losing the puck in his own defensive zone.  Losing the puck at the hand of Quebec left winger Foreurs defenseman David Noel saw Luke Kirwan scoring his 10th of the regular season at 7:59.

Still leading 2-0 on main scoreboard Quebec dominated 11-5 in shots on goal in second periods with Val-d’Or second and third shots coming with 4:55 remaining. Quebec dominated 26-6 in shots on goal after forty minutes.

Foreurs defenseman Anthony Allipot got best scoring chance for the visiting team forcing Quebec netminder Dereck Baribeau to make a glove save preserving the zero on visiting side on scoreboard.

Blocking a shot from Val-d’Or defenseman David Noel, Quebec defenseman Braeden Virtue saw his teammate and Captain Matthew Boucher went on breakaway but saw visiting netminder Momtpetit make the save preventing Quebec to add to their lead.

Quebec complete the scoring adding a third goal scored by Captain Matthew Boucher in an empty net at 17:15 of the third period.

With Luke Kirwan scoring his 10th goals in last 11 games, Captain Matthew Boucher also reach 10th goal this season even if the late one was scored in an empty net. Talking about the game against Val-d’Or Boucher agreed to say his team dominate that game.

“Yes we dominated that game, in the first period, it is something we try to do. Usually, we did not play good first period but tonight our first period dictated the game. We have had a little let down in third periods but for the rest it was a very good game,” Quebec Captain Matthew Boucher said.

“We are a team that respect the game plan, I think it is the difference in regard of past year, we respect the game plan we work for each other, tonight it has been a great example. “Barbs” (Quebec goaltender Dereck Baribeau) did the work when he had to work and for the rest we limited their scoring chances.”

“We didn’t get great start to begin the game,” Val-d’Or head coach Mario Durocher said. “Two little mistakes in first period that made the difference in the game. I think in second you had over 15 minutes played and we didn’t had any shot, only one in first period. In the last five minute of the middle frame, we have had great scoring chances.”

“We can give credit to Dereck Baribeau, he deserved his shutout, and he made several key saves. On our side Etienne (Mompetit) also did big job, it was a 2-0 game. In third we allowed only five shots. For sure they played last night, so we expected that more the game went on, more tired they might be. We did not shoot, we made play behind we didn’t have anyone who drove the net and no rebound.” Continued visitor head coach Durocher.

“That is little things we need to concentrate to do. That is what I asked to my players, did the preparation was adequate or not? It was the first time we have hard time to play sixty minutes. We have a young team, we have a price to pay. This year we play against great team and we were successfully got points late in third periods. I have to be positive, we allowed only five shots, we have had eight, we have had some opportunities so we have to grow with that as a team.” Concluded Foreurs head coach Durocher.

On Saturday night Quebec will conclude his three games-in-three nights hosting Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
