Quebec salvage rookie tournament with win over Chicoutimi Five different players score for Quebec

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Losing their two previous outings, Quebec only had one more chance to register their first win in the rookie tournament and one last chance to impress the coaching staff. Remparts got final word on Saturday afternoon winning 5-1 against Chicoutimi.

Allowing the other teams in two previous games to open the scoring, Quebec broke the ice playing at even strength with only 1:39 gone in the opening frame. Gabriel Montreuil beat Sagueneens starting goaltender Alexandre Taddeo who played first half of the game allowing first three goals to Quebec on 21 shots.

Selected in 12th round (206th overall) in 2016 Guillaume St-Pierre scored his second goal of the tournament, the eventual game winning goal, at 16:12 of the first period.

Trailing by two after one period of play Chicoutimi cut the Quebec lead in half with their first and only goal of the game with 2:15 gone in middle frame.

Getting only two chances with a man up, Quebec scored their third goal in the game on the power play. Selected in seventh round (117th overall) in 2017 Emile Hegarty-Aubin scored Quebec third goals giving back to Remparts their two goal leads at 4:42.

Quebec came back with two more goals in the third period. Already scoring his first goal in the tournament, the 5’7” 152 pound scored his second of the tournament at 4:02 beating Chicoutimi netminder Hugo Chiasson who entered in the game at 10:38 of the second period. The 8th round selection (132nd overall) in 2017 allowed two goals on 26 shots in 29:22 minutes of play.

Olivier Mathieu scored Quebec fifth goal at 7:21 of the third period.

Charles-Olivier Rancourt began the game in goal for Quebec allowing Chicoutimi only goal on 13 shots in 40:00 of play. Marc-Antoine Berube-Jalbert played 20:00 facing only four shots saving them all.

Quebec next preseason game will be in Quebec on next Tuesday August 22 hosting the Rimouski Oceanic.
