QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Scoring three goals in first period Quebec never looked back registering their sixth consecutive win on the road 5-0 against Shawinigan. Making 32 saves, goaltender Dereck Baribeau registered his fourth shutout of the regular season. Gregor MacLeod for his part ends the game with four assists.
Dominating 15-9 in shots on goal Shawinigan trailed 3-0 on main scoreboard after the first period. Beginning the game on strong note the Cataractes saw their opponent break the ice on their second shot on goal. The shot by Quebec defenseman Christian Huntley has been redirect by Remparts first round selection 16 overall in 2017 Pierrick Dube who scored his second of the regular season 4:51 into initial period.
A four-minute penalty to Shawinigan center William Cummins led to Quebec second goals in the game. Gregor MacLeod made perfect pass to Quebec captain Matthew Boucher beating Mathieu Bellemare at 11:24 for Boucher 29th goals of the season.
A turnover in the neutral zone gave the chance to Quebec left winger Olivier Garneau going on breakaway taking first shot on Cataractes netminder. Making left pad save on Garneau first shot Bellemare could do nothing on the rebound shot taken by teammate Louis-Filip Cote scoring Quebec third goals with 4:38 remaining into the opening period.
While the first period had lots of action with three goals scored, only one other was scored in middle frame. Leading by three Quebec added a fourth goal to their lead with only 1:27 gone in middle frame.
Playing center taking place of Philipp Kurashev Pascal Laberge scored his 16th goals of the year his 10th in 28 games in Quebec jersey. Laberge wrist shot beat Cataractes netminder on his right side.
Quebec defenseman Benjamin Gagne score the visitor’s fifth goal in the game 8:01 into the third period. Coming out of penalty box Gregor MacLeod accepted a pass from teammate Olivier Garneau, who went on two-on-one breakaway with defenseman Game scoring his 10th of the year.
Making 32 saves during the game Dereck Baribeau registered his fourth shutout of the year.
Quebec next game will be on the road visiting Rouyn-Noranda on Thursday and will be in Val-d’Or on Friday.
