QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — With two goals each, Anthony Duclair and Logan Shaw led Quebec to a 9-2 win over Baie-Comeau. Trailing by one after the first period Quebec exploded in the second scoring seven times after killing a two man disadvantage. Playing the backup role for the last 10 games (last start on February 18- 2012 in a 2-0 win against Moncton) veteran goalie Louis Domingue registered his 21st victory in 34 starts.
Quebec was the first team to break the ice in Baie-Comeau on Wednesday night. Anthony Duclair on a breakaway, following a great pass by Frederick Roy left Quebec left winger alone beating Drakkar goaltender Jimmy Appleby to his right side with 16:35 remaining to the opening period.
Ranked 5th with a man advantage at 24.6 percent (59-240) Baie-Bomeau got the first chance with a man up. Unable to get the puck behind Quebec netminder, Sacha Guimond and Carl Gelinas had the best Drakkar chances.
Logan Shaw gave Quebec a 2-0 lead by deflecting a shot by Kurt Etchegary giving no chance to Jimmy Appleby at 13:46.
But before the first period ended, Raphael Bussiere was credited with Baie-Comeau’s first goal seeing the puck redirected by Quebec defenseman Maxime Fortier 1:11 later.
Quebec came back in second scoring seven goals on 13 shots. Quebec regained a two goal lead 3-1 on Mikhail Grigorenko 38th of the season on a perfect pass from Roy who received a first pass from Duclair 6:43 into second period. For Grigorenko, it was his 6th goal in his last three games.
Author of Quebec third goal Grigorenko was penalized for hooking following by Gabriel Desjardins giving a 5-on-3 power play to the Drakkar for 42 seconds. Unable to put the puck behind Domingue during the two man advantage, Baie-Comeau saw Quebec successfully killed the subsequent 5-on-4 for 1:18.
Killing both Baie-Comeau penalties Quebec scored four times in 3:46 with first two in 22 seconds. Partially blocking first shot by Marc-Antoine Carrier, Logan Shaw only had to push the puck under Drakkar netminder at 13:21.
Just 22 seconds later Kurt Etchegary redirected a shot by Mathieu Lavalle beating Appleby between his pads with 5:55 to play for Quebec 5th goals of the game. Anthony Duclair with his second of the game 13:48, Alexandre Contois 20th of the year at 16:17 made Quebec 7-1 lead.
Lukas Cingel beat Domingue over his right shoulder with a wrist shot from left faceoff circle at 18:08. Playing his second game since coming back from injury list Michael McNamee scores Quebec 8th goal in the game 28 seconds later. And with 38.1 left on the clock, Mathieu Lavallee score Quebec 9th goal.
Quebec had the advantage in shots on goal department 36-29 being 0-6 with a man advantage. Baie-Comeau ended 0-4.
Quebec will be back in front of their fans Friday hosting the Moncton Wildcats.
