Quebec ends skid with win in Val-d’Or Kiselev earns first star with 32 saves

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Playing for second time in Val-d’Or in as many nights losing their last four games, their worst in 2016-17 regular season, Quebec put an end to it with a 4-1 win against the Val-d’Or Foreurs. Evgeny Kiselev did an excellent job in Quebec net earning the first star of the game making 32 saves out of 33 Foreurs shots.

Like last night the first period I Val-d’Or was an exciting one for the fans in the Centre Air Crebec. Three goals were scored two by the visiting team one by the Foreurs.

Igor Larionov Jr. broke the ice with the first goal in the game for Quebec. Larionov Jr. redirected a shot from the blue line by defenseman Raphael Matheux at 8:24

Quebec came back less than three minutes later with their second goal in the game at 11:54. Olivier Mathieu wrist shot beat Val-d’Or goaltender Mathieu Marquis under right arm for his first QMJHL goal on his 13 games in the QMJHL playing seven with Saint John and six with Quebec.

Beneficiary of their first power play opportunity following a penalty to Quebec forward Matthew Boucher, Val-d’Or scored on a Jake Smith one-timer from the blue line that left no chance to Kiselev at 14:08.

Action continued in second period with Quebec been the only team to score goal. Unclaimed by any Ontario Hockey League and signed as free agent by Quebec organization, Shawn Billy scored his first goal in the QMJHL with Quebec. Billy’s shot deflected on someone skates before beating Val-d’Or netminder on his left side at 14:58.

Kiselev for his part has been perfect blocking all nine Foreurs shots he faced allowing only one goal on 20 shots after forty minutes.

Quebec began the third period getting two great scoring chances but on both occasions Val-d’Or netminder made the saves. The first one saw Dmitry Buynitskyi on breakaway, his shot has been stopped by Marquis. On Second occasions Yanick Turcotte redirect a shot from defenseman Benjamin Gagne. Foreurs goaltender made the save on that one too.

Finally Olivier Garneau put the puck in an empty net with 1:15 remaining in the third period to end Quebec worst winless streak this season.

Quebec next game will be Thursday night at home hosting Blainville-Boisbriand.

Six other games were on QMJHL schedule on Sunday.
