QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Winners in their last two games on the road Quebec put their record on the line against a team that only lost four times in their own building in 2010-11 regular seasons. Quebec put a halt to Drummondville’s winning streak at nine. Only three other teams earned 10 wins and more, Saint John Sea Dogs with 15, Quebec and the Lewiston MAINEiacs with 10 consecutive wins are the others.
Quebec played a solid first period scoring two goals on six shots against Drummondville goaltender Guillaume Nadeau. John Audy-Marchessault played a key role on Quebec first two goals.
Besides being the author of first Remparts goal with his team being the beneficiary of a man advantage, Audy-Marchessault earned the only assist on Quebec second goal. For Marchessault it was his 25th times with two points in the game in his career.
A penalty to Voltigeurs left winger Marc-Andre Brouillard for tripping at 4:39 opened the door for Quebec to draw first blood.
Audy-Marchessault completed a great play from Ryan Bourque and Martin Lefebvre driving to the net before beating Drummondville goaltender between the pads with their first shot on goal only 58 seconds after Brouillard penalty began.
Tomas Filippi gave no chance to the Voltigeurs netminder when his shot (one-timer) hit the post before going in for Quebec second goal at 13:49 of the opening period.
The first period ended with Remparts defenseman Alex Wall being sent to the box for holding at 18:50 giving Drummondville their first power play opportunity.
Unable to get on scoreboard before the end of the first period, the Voltigeurs began the second period still being on a power play for first 50 seconds but were unable to convert.
Quebec continued its territorial domination shooting 15 times on Drummondville netminder who was beaten twice in the second period. Drummondville broke through 35 seconds after Quebec’s third goal scored by Frederick Roy. After losing their three goal lead Quebec took 12:02 to regain it with Marchessault second goal of the game at 14:37.
Quebec reclaimed their three-goal lead when Roy tipped a great pass from Bourque beating Nadeau to his right side exactly with 2:00 gone in middle frame.
Unable to keep the rebound on his stick following first Drummondville shot taken by Ondrej Palat, Quebec defenseman Mikael Tam saw Sean Couturier take another shot block by Louis Domingue but Remparts netminder wasn’t able to make the save on Voltigeurs right winger Andre Bouvet-Morrissette who got Drummondville’s first goal only 35 seconds after Quebec third goal.
Marchessault scored his second of the night and his 90th point in regular season being only the third one in regular season to get 90 points. The last two players getting 90 points in regular season in Remparts uniform were Felix Petit and Brent Aubin in 2006-07.
Already being one for three with a man advantage Quebec didn’t miss on their fourth power play opportunity. Remparts center Joel Champagne found Alexandre Grenier alone on Drummondville netminder right side. Grenier’s shot beat Nadeau for Quebec’s fifth goal, their second with a man advantage with only 1:36 gone in third period.
Drummondville second goal in the game came from the stick of Voltigeurs center Maxime Villemaire at 9:06. Villemaire’s wrist shot beat Quebec goaltender for his fourth goal of the year.
Quebec will be back in front of their fans for next three games completing their home schedule. First the Remparts will face their archrival in the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Wednesday March 9. On Friday March 11 Quebec will host the Victoriaville Tigres before ending their home portion of their 2010-11 schedules on Sunday March 13 against the Shawinigan Cataractes.
