Quebec edge Rouyn-Noranda 4-2

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Quebec began their sequence of two games in 24 hours with a win against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Four different players scored Quebec goals. Quebec received important contributions from their special units with one shorthanded goal and another with a man advantage.
 
After Rouyn-Noranda took a 1-0 lead inside four minutes, Quebec came back scoring the next two goals ending the first period leading 2-1.
 
Quebec tied the game with one of their player in the box (John Audy-Marchessault) at 11:07 and they took the lead with a man up.   
 
Rouyn-Noranda opened the scoring on their second scoring chances in four shots. Jason Kelley beat Quebec goaltender Jimmy Appleby with a wrist shot from the slot.
 
Quebec replied in a shorthanded situation tying the score 1-1 with only 21 seconds remaining. Olivier Hinse found Matthew Brown (who just got green light from the medical staff to play) left alone beating Robin Gusse at 12:47.
 
Quebec didn’t miss their opportunity when they sent their power play (best in the league) following a penalty to Huskies center Robin Defulviis who had been sent to the box for slashing at 17:38.
 
Huskies netminder Gusse didn’t have a chance on Quebec defenseman Vincent Barnard one-timer from the right point at 18:54. For Barnard, it was his 15th power play goal on a total of 19 for the year ranking him second behind Mikael Sersen.
 
The second one saw Quebec continue to play great hockey in first portion of second period taking a two goal leads with Quebec third goal. Scoring their second goal in the game in the second portion of second period Rouyn-Noranda played much better in second half dominating the shots on goal 11-5 after forty minutes.  
 
A turnover in Rouyn-Noranda defensive zone created by Quebec forward Mirko Hoefflin led to Quebec third goal in the game. Frederick Roy beat Gusse high on the right side 4:18 into second period.
 
Huskies defenseman Jeremy Barriault reduced Quebec lead taking a rebound shot from center Defulviis to beat Quebec netminder Appleby for Rouyn-Noranda second goal of the game at 12:20. The Huskies put lots of pressure on Quebec defensive zone forcing Quebec netminder to stay alert making 10 saves on 11 shots.
 
Ryan Bourque scored in an empty to complete Quebec’s scoring with 2.5 seconds remaining.
 
Quebec will return to action tonight playing the Val-d’Or Foreurs for second game in less than twenty-four hours.
