QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — The Quebec Remparts ended their three games-in three nights going to Shawinigan visiting the Cataractes at the Bionest Center. After compiling two victories in the first two games, on Friday against Rouyn-Noranda (4-2) and Baie-Comeau (4-3), the Remparts completed their weekend with a third win, defeating Shawinigan 4-1.
Also playing their third game-in-three nights after splitting games with the Blainville-Boisbriand, the Cataractes wanted a second win for their fans against Quebec. Unfortunately the Remparts came out of the Bionest Center returning home with the win.
A penalty to Shawinigan left winger Peter Sakaris for tripping at 12:57 in first period prove to be costly since Quebec opened the scoring, on their first power play opportunity of the game. Frederick Roy jumps on a rebound from Mikael Tam shot from the blue line giving no chance to Cataractes netminder Alex Dubeau at 13:12.
Minor penalties to Quebec defenseman Tam and Shawinigan Russian Nikita Kolesnikov at 20:00 of the opening period led to Quebec second goal with only 32 seconds gone in second periods. Owen Werthner took a rebound from a shot from Anthony Duclair beating the Shawinigan goalie high on Dubeau right side.
Quebec took control of the game scoring three goals in middle frame. After seeing Quebec defenseman Werthner scoring Quebec second goal Anthony Duclair scores Quebec next two goals, his fifth and sixth of the regular season in next 3:23. The former Lac-St-Louis Midget AAA beat Cataractes goalie with a great move forcing Dubeau to stretch out before pushing the puck in an empty net for Quebec third goal at 10:16 of second frame.
Duclair scores his second of the period with 6:21 to go in middle frame giving 4-0 Quebec after forty minutes of play.
Dubeau, who has been pulled by his head coach Eric Veilleux after forty minutes of play in favor of Ty Zastre, can’t be blame for Quebec goals allowing four goals on Quebec 27 shots on goal after first two periods. Shawinigan shots 20 times on Louis Domingue who has been designated to defend Remparts cage after sitting on the bench in last two preceding games for preventive measure following a minor injury.
The Cataractes avoided the shutout scoring their only goal in the game during a power play ending their night 1 in 6 power play. Louis Domingue who was almost perfect seemed surprised when the shot from Cataractes center Michael Chaput slide under his arm at 8:41.
Duclair thought, for a couple seconds, that he had scored his first hat trick in the QMJHL when he saw the puck crossing the line behind Zastre but after the referees reviewed the play the Quebec fifth goal was given to Michael McNamee, his fourth of the season, with 6:13 to go in the game.
Quebec next game will be on Thursday night when they will host Victoriaville Tigres.
