QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Winning in Drummondville on Friday night, Quebec faced-off against Chicoutimi winning 4-2 against the Sagueneens. Matthew Boucher was the best player on Quebec team with two goals and an assist.
In an offensive first period, fans in Chicoutimi saw four goals scored. Their favorites
were the first to break the ice on their first power play opportunity following the penalty to Quebec center Pascal Laberge. Liam Stevens redirect a shot from former Quebec Remparts defenseman Gabriel Villeneuve beating Quebec goaltender Dereck Baribeau with only 10 seconds gone to the penalty. Stephen Templeton got the other assist on first Sagueneens goal coming at 3:49.
Quebec replied 29 seconds later as Louis-Filip Cote took advantage of lots of traffic in front of Chicoutimi goaltender taking a rebound from teammate Olivier Garneau first shot beating Alexis Shank for Cote seventh of the year.
Quebec took the lead for first time 6:25 into opening period. A great pass from Gregor MacLeod to Pascal Laberge beating Shank on right side for his 13th goal of the regular season.
A bad outing from Sagueneens netminder led to Quebec third goals in the game. Getting the puck from Olivier Mathieu captain Matthew Boucher only had to puck the puck in empty net with 4:10 remaining in the initial period.
In the second period, both teams got scoring opportunities. Getting three chances with a man up in first period Chicoutimi took advantage of their first one to score their first goal. Getting two other in middle frame Chicoutimi was 1-in- 5.
With no opportunity in first period Quebec got their first power play at 2:48 as Mathieu Desgagnes went in the box for holding. They got a second opportunity at 16:49 also in middle frame but on both occasions Chicoutimi successfully killed the penalties.
The only goal in the middle frame came with 35.9 seconds remaining in the second periods as Chicoutimi cut Quebec lead to only one goal. Driven to the net Mathieu Desgagnes took a rebound from Vladislav Kotkov scoring second Sagueneens goal.
Only one other goal was scored, in the third, and it came from the stick of Quebec captain Boucher scoring his second of the game in an empty net shooting the puck from his own blue line with 25 seconds left to the game. Baribeau was in goal for a 36 times making 22 saves on Chicoutimi 24 shots earning his 13th victory of the season.
Quebec will return home on Wednesday night hosting Val-d’Or Foreurs.
