QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — While Quebec successfully completed a winning comeback in the third period the night before in Halifax, the Remparts scored all their needed goals (three) in the second period completing a perfect weekend for Patrick Roy’s team for their second victory in less than twenty-four hours.
For the second game in as many nights, veteran forward John Audy-Marchessault scored what became the winning goal in his team’s favor in a 4-2 victory, scoring the third Quebec goal with less than three minutes remaining in the middle frame.
Like the previous game the previous night against Halifax, where starting goaltender Jimmy Appleby kept his team in the game making several key saves in the first period, Louis Domingue had to do the same in the opening period especially during a penalty to Quebec captain Mikael Tam for delaying the game at 7:31.
Moncton led in shots on goal, 9-5. Each team had the chance to play with a man up without being able to break the ice. Quebec began the second period with 26 seconds of power play time thanks to a penalty taken by Moncton left winger Olivier Daoust for roughing at 18:27 of the first.
After twenty minutes without goal, the fans saw both teams score five times, three by Quebec and two by Moncton in the second.
Quebec opened the scoring on the 19th goal of the season scored by Ryan Bourque following a great pass from Frederick Roy. The key play on Quebec’s first goal in the game belonged to Joel Champagne. Bourque’s goal came at 14:26.
Moncton answered Quebec first goal just 19 seconds later with Lance Pridham’s goal beating Domingue at 14:26. A good forchecking play by Ryan Culkin led to Vincent Montreuil goal. Quebec regained a one goal lead this time 2-1 at 14:45.
John Audy-Marchessault gave a 3-1 lead to Quebec beating Shane Owen with a backhanded shot going between the Moncton goaltender’s pads at 17:56.
As Moncton did after Quebec scored two goals in 19 seconds in second period, Moncton answered again this time by reducing Quebec leads to one goal, when Devon MacAuslan beat Quebec goaltender between his pads on a breakaway at 18:53.
Both teams returned to their respective locker room with Quebec leading 3-2 after two.
Domingue close the door making all four necessary saves against Wildcats players. Ryan Bourque finished the Remparts offense for the night scoring the last Quebec goal the fourth one in an empty net with three seconds remaining in the game.
Bourque leaves for USA National Junior Team training camp, which will compete, in the next World Junior Championship.
Tomas Filippi will also leave the Remparts for Tcheque Junior Team training camp that will also compete in the same World Junior Championship.
The other European Mirko Hoefflin will also leave Quebec for the German National junior team one week later joining his National junior teammates in Detroit for training camp in hope he can stick with the team for the tournament.
Quebec also ended the game leading the shots on goal 31-22 but was unable to score goals in four power plays attempts. Moncton ended 0-2.
Quebec will return home taking day off on Monday before going back on the ice preparing for their next home game next Friday night December 17 hosting the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
