QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Back from rookie training camp in Chicoutimi, Quebec head coach and General Manager Philippe Boucher confirmed that four players did not pass the first cut. Defensemen Eric Nadon and Brendan Lanning (who was an invite), Felix Tremblay and forward Tommy Vangeois.

On Sunday afternoon, the team played the traditional Red against White game won 3-1 by White team. Mikael Robidoux was the best offensive player with two goals; Philip Kurashev got the other on White team.

The only goal for the Red team came from the stick of Jesse Sutton. Another player who made a good impression was the American, 16-year old defenseman, Braeden Virtue. Born in Worcester the 5’10” 163 pound showed skill.

“It is funny to hear young American say he come to earn a spot.” Quebec head coach said after first intra-squad game. “He showed lots of skill and he is calm with the puck. We will talk to his parent and see what will happen.”

On Monday morming, Quebec organization announced two other players had been cut from training camp both were goaltenders Charles-Olivier Rancourt and Marc-Antoine Berube Jalbert.

Later at night players played a second intra-squad game as White won their second game, needing overtime to win. Matthew Boucher scored twice, the one in overtime giving a 3-2 win.

For the Red team, Austin Eastman and Olivier Mathieu got the goals. Head coach Boucher found the second intra-squad game better than the first one the day before.

“As I see you are always positive, answered Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher referring to a reporter question about the fact it was tougher to score goals even in practice. I prefer to be more positive, it was better faster than yesterday, it look like better to a hockey game than yesterday or in Chicoutimi,” Remparts head coach said.

Answering another question about defenseman Sam Dunn, Boucher had good words to say about his defenseman saying, “He looked like an Andrew Pico more experience better physically, stronger, meaner a bit better skater.”

He agreed with a comparison with last year defenseman Raphael Maheux.

“He is a guy who will be with us this year, he blocked lots of shot, and talking with the latest General Manager of his last year team and he said to me you have a heck of shut down defenseman. I think it will be the kind of role he might have with us. Huntley (Christian) did the same thing, we saw Verrette (Etienne) did the same yesterday, so we will have great mix of stay at home defenseman and guys who can move the puck, ended Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher after the second intra-squad game.

The first real exhibition game will be on Tuesday night 20:00 hosting the Rimouski Oceanic.
