QMJHL trading update

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —With the trading deadline approaching in the QMJHL on January 7th 12:00 pm, teams became more active. Twelve more trades were registered since December 31. 2011.
 
One of the first teams to make a significant trade, with the acquisition of defenseman Jonathan Narbonne from the Blainville-Boisbriand, the Shawinigan Cataractes made another great addition with the acquisition of Morgan Ellis (1992-04-30) of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. In return, the Cataractes sent to the Screaming Eagles right winger Bronson Beaton and a second round pick in 2012 and a first round selection in 2013.
 
The second trade was between the Rimouski Oceanic and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.   Requesting a trade because he wants to have more playing time the Oceanic forward Liam O’Brien (1994-07-29) saw the Rimouski general manager Philippe Boucher send his center to Rouyn-Noranda with his first European pick in 2012 and a fifth round selection in 2014.   In return, the Huskies sent the Oceanic a first European selection in 2012, a second round pick in 2012 and a third round pick in 2012 previously belonging to Saint John.
 
 
Victoriaville and Moncton were the first two teams to trade players to open the New Year.   The Tigres sent two defensemen, Danick Emond (1993-04-21) and Jacob Sweeney (1995-03-01), to Moncton. The Wildcats sent defenseman Daniel Milan (1992-04-14) to Victoriaville.
 
The Quebec Remparts confirmed a trade with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on January 2nd. Granting a favor to his fourth 20-year-old (teams only have the right to carry three 20-year-olds on QMJHL roster), Patrick Roy sent veteran forward Olivier Hinse (1991-03-02) to the Armada for defenseman Marc-Antoine Carrier (1992-04-10). Carrier did not play a game in junior, playing with the Brown University.
 
The Victoriaville Tigres confirmed a second trade, this time with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Victoriaville sent defenseman Francois Godin plus a third round pick in 2013 previously belonging to Acadie-Bathurst and a first and third round selection in 2013.
 
Five trades were confirmed by the league on January 3rd. The first saw Cape Breton goaltender Alexandre Veroneau (1993-05-03) go to Quebec in return the Remparts sent to the Screaming Eagles a seventh round pick in 2012.
 
Cape Breton confirmed two other trades following the first one with Quebec on January 3rd. the Screaming Eagles sent Raman Hrabarenka (1992-08-24) to Drummondville, in return the Voltigeurs sent a sixth round pick previously belonging to Blainville-Boisbriand.
 
The Blainville-Broisbriand sent goaltender William Racicot (1992-07-19) and a second round pick in 2013 to Cape Breton. In return the Screaming Eagles sent to the Armada defenseman Samuel Hodhod (1994-02-14) and a seventh round pick in 2012 previously belonging to Quebec.
 
In the fourth trade, on January 3rd Rouyn-Noranda and Saint John exchange draft picks. The Huskies sent to the Sea Dogs first European draft pick 2012 (previously belonging to Rimouski), a second round pick in 2012 (formerly belonging to Saint John) and fourth round pick also in 2012 (previously belonging to Quebec). Saint John sent their first round pick in 2012.
 
The last trade of the day on January 3rd saw the Drummondville Voltigeurs sending center Maxime Villemaire (1992-10-14) to Saint John in return for the Sea Dogs second round selection in 2012 and their sixth round pick in 2013.
 
As of this writing only one trade had been confirm on January 4th. The Shawinigan Cataractes sent defenseman Dale Dion (1992-12-03) to Rimouski in return the Oceanic sent a seventh round selection in 2012 previously belonging to Shawinigan.
