QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Roman Will, Dannick Gauthier and Pierre-Olivier Morin earned the Telus Players of the week honor for period of November 7 through 13.
The Moncton Wildcats goaltender earned the distinction of being elected the QMJHL first star thanks notably to a big performance against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar where Will made 29 saves earning the third star of the game in a 4-0 victory.
Playing against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Will pulled another solid performance stopping 28 shots in a 5-1 win. Will blanked his opponents for 129 minutes 21 seconds before the Screaming Eagles scored their only goal in the game. The Moncton netminder was within 50 minutes of the team’s record held by Nicola Riopel since February 2010.
The QMJHL second star went to Saint John Sea Dogs center Dannick Gauthier who collected 7 points in 3 games. In a 7-3 win against the Prince Edward Island Rocket on Friday, the Sea Dogs center ended the game registering 1 goal, 1 assist being named the third stars of that game.
Playing the Halifax Mooseheads on Saturday in a 4-3 win, Gauthier earned the first star of the game ending with 2 goals, 2 assist, one of two goals being the game winning goal. On Sunday against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar the Saint John center registered an assist in their third wins of the weekend. Gauthier ended his week with 3 goals four assists and a plus/minus of +4.
Ending his week with 5 points in two games Shawinigan Cataractes left winger Pierre-Olivier Morin was named Telus third star of the week. Playing against the Rimouski Oceanic the Trois Rivieres native registered 2 goals 1 assist in an 8-7 win. Against the Drummondville Voltigeurs the following night he collected another goal adding another assist in Shawinigan 6-1 victory. The 6 feet 170 pounds ended his week with 3 goals, 2 assists and a plus/minus of +4.
