QMJHL President Cup final tied two games all with Blainville-Boisbriand victory in Acadie-Bathurst Batherson ends night with two goals

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Trailing the QMJHL President Cup final 2-1, Blainville-Boisbriand came out strong dominating the Acadie-Bathurst 5-1. Drake Batherson with two goals led the Armada to their second victory in the QMJHL final. The series return to Blainville-Boisbriand on Friday night.

Contrary to the first three games in that series where lots of goals were scored, both teams played more defensively as the two best defensive teams during the regular season face each other in game four. Number of shots (6-5 Blainville-Boisbriand) was a great indication of what was the first period.  

Emile Samson for Blainville-Boisbriand and Evan Fitzpatrick for Acadie-Bathurst were perfect.

After scoreless first period, trailing 2-1 in the President Cup final, Blainville-Boisbriand dominated the second periods scoring three goals. On a three-on-one breakaway, Anthony Poulin broke the ice scoring Armada first goal on great pass by teammate Alexandre Alain 1:21 into second period.

Acadie-Bathurst best scoring opportunity came from the stick of Alexandre Truchon-Viel, who saw Emile Samson made the save. Alexandre Katerinakis left no chance to Titans netminder Evan Fitzpatrick for Armada second goal with 7:42 left to play in middle frame.

Luke Henman made 3-0 Armada as his wrist shot from near goalie crease left no chance to Acadie-Bathurst netminder at 17:53.

Drake Batherson scored first of two goals in third periods making the Armada taking a 4-0 leads. Losing his stick Acadie-Bathurst defenseman Noah Dobson can’t do anything on Batherson redirection following a pass from teammate Joel Tisdale at 7:24. Antoine Crete-Belzile got the other assist.  Goal was scored as both team played four-on-four.

Already been shutout in two previous attempts on power play Acadie-Bathurst scored their only goal on their third power play. The shot by Titans defenseman Adam Holwell left no chance to Blainville-Boisbriand netminder Samson as the puck had been redirected by his own teammate Alex Barre-Boulet at 8:49.

Trailing by three with five minutes to play in the third periods Acadie-Bathurst decided to play all in pulling his starting netminder in favor of a sixth attackers. Unfortunately an intercepted pass by Acadie-Bathurst defenseman Olivier Galipeau led to Batherson second goals in the game and in third periods giving to the Armada a four goal leads.

Game five of the QMJHL President Cup final will be next Friday May 11 in Blainville-Boisbriand
