QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Zach O’Brien, Roman Will and Morgan Ellis earned QMJHL Telus player of the week honors for the week January 2nd to 8th.
Registering 9 points and a plus/minus record of +2 the Acadie-Bathurst Titan right winger Zach O’Brien earned the first player of the week honor. Taking the lead in the overall scoring with 77 points, three more than Yan Gourde of the Victoriaville Tigres, the Titan right winger began his week registering an assist in a 4-3 loss against the Prince Edward Island Rocket. On Friday against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles he scores his 35th goals of the regular season being named the first stars of the game in a 5-2 win.
O’Brien completed the week recording four points’ two goals in a 6-5 overtime win against the Gatineau Olympiques on Saturday January 8th being named the first star of that game. The Acadie-Bathurst right winger ended his week scoring four goals adding five assists and a plus/minus record of +2.
After being on the losing end in a 2-1 shootout loss versus the Saint John Sea Dogs where he made 29 saves, the Moncton Wildcats goaltender Roman Will came back and played a key role the rest of the week for his team.
The Czech Republic-native made 31 saves in a 5-1 win against the Gatineau Olympiques on Friday earning the third star of the game. On Saturday Will earned the second star of the game making 26 saves in a 2-1 win against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. With that wins over Cape Breton the Wildcats netminder became the 2nd goaltender in the league to registered 20 wins. Will finished the week with a 0.97 goals-against-average and a 0.966 save percentage.
Playing his first game with his new team after being traded from Cape Breton to Shawinigan, Morgan Ellis earned the QMJHL third player of the week honor being named the third stars ending the game with 3 points (1 goal) in 8-3 win against the Rimouski Oceanic. On Friday against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, the Montreal fourth picks (117 overall) in 2010 add two assists in a 6-3 win.
In Sunday’s game against Victoriaville, the former Screaming Eagles defenseman, scores his 10th goal of the regular season becoming the 7th defensemen to reach that plateau in 2011-12, adding an assist in a 4-2 win against the Tigres, earning the first stars of the game. Ellis ended his week totaling 7 points scoring 3 goals and a plus/minus record of +2 with his new team the Cataractes.
