QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Several teams in the QMJHL decided to make moves involving players aged 20-years of age and Europeans players.

The most recent trade confirmed by the QMJHL on Monday was between Victoriaville Tigres and Rimouski Oceanic. Having requested a trade from the Tigres, veteran defenseman (20-years old) Pier-Luc Pelletier, who had left the QMJHL team to play with the Princeville Titans in junior AAA league, saw his wish granted when Victoriaville general manager Jerome Mesonero sent the St-Nicolas native to the Oceanic. Pelletier played a total of 189 games with Victoriaville.

In return, Rimouski sent to Victoriaville a sixth round pick in 2012 previously belonging to Saint John Sea Dogs and a third round pick in 2012.

In another trade, on October 14, the Shawinigan Cataractes and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada were involved in an important transaction. Shawinigan acquired European forward Kirill Kabanov and defenseman Alexandre Gauthier from the Blainville-Boisbriand.

Back from the New-York Islanders training camp, Kabanov who began the 2010-11 regular season with the Moncton Wildcats where he was scoreless in two games, saw his rights traded to the former Lewiston MAINEiacs where he recorded 28 points (11 goals) in 37 games before coming to Shawinigan, he didn’t play any game with the Cataractes.

The Blainville-Boisbriand were involved in another trade on October 4th this time sending veteran 20-year-old defenseman Charles-Olivier Roussel to the Saint John Sea Dogs. The 6’02” 202 pound who had been draft by the Nashville Predators in the 2nd round and 42nd overall in 2009, ended last season with 30 points (5 goals) amassing 46 penalty minutes in 59 games with the Montreal Junior becoming the new Blainville- Broisbriand Armada following team’s sale to a new owner.

The St-Eustache-native who had been a first round selection, 3rd overall, by Shawinigan in 2007 recorded 51 points, 15 goals, with the Cataractes the previous year. Roussel will be the third 20-year-old player with Saint John.
