Purdeller Scores, Adds Assist as Battalion Even Series

It was back to back nights for the Peterborough Petes and North Bay Battalion as they faced off for game four of the Eastern Conference Final at the PMC. The game came just 24 hours after a huge comeback win for the Petes on home ice in game three of the best of seven series. The Petes 3-2 win on Tuesday put them ahead 2-1 in the series, keeping their undefeated playoff home record intact. Brennan Othmann would look to extend his 10 game point streak on Wednesday night after recording a goal and an assist last night.

It was a tough start for the Petes and the PMC faithful as just over a minute into the game, the Battalion scored to go up 1-0. The trouble didn’t stop there as they would find a second just six minutes later to extend their lead to 2-0. The Petes kept their composure and kept their foot on the gas, outplaying North Bay for the majority of the period. Finally, at the halfway point of the period, the Petes would get on the board. A beautiful drop pass from Brennan Othmann found Tommy Purdeller who banged in his own rebound to cut the Battalion lead to 2-1. Peterborough had a number of chances to tie the game up in the final 10 minutes, but couldn’t beat Battalion goalie Dom DiVincentiis. North Bay would take their one goal lead into the break, leading 12-11 in shots.

The second period again did not start out the way the Petes wanted. After a hit post on the powerplay, North Bay came back the other way and scored to go up 3-1. Even after the goal, the Petes would keep pressing. With just over five minutes left in the period, Tommy Purdeller fed J.R. Avon who one-timed it past DiVincentiis to once again cut the Battalion lead to one. With a big chance to go up on the powerplay with a minute left in the second, North Bay would come down and score their second short handed goal in two games to take a 4-2 lead into the final 20.

The Petes would push and push all through the third period but just could not seem to buy a goal. Chance after chance just would not cross the line, no matter how hard they pushed. North Bay would add an empty netter late and take the game 5-2, tying the best of seven series at two games a piece.

Tommy Purdeller led the way for the Petes with a goal and an assist. J.R Avon scored while Brennan Othmann, Tucker Robertson and Shawn Spearing all picked up an assist.

The Petes are in North Bay on Friday May, 5 for game five of the Eastern Conference Final best of seven series against the North Bay Battalion. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Fans can also catch the game on OHL Live, YourTV Peterborough, and Freq 90.5.
