Columbus, GA- The game between Port Huron and Columbus is the seventh of eight matches these two teams will have this regular season. The two teams didn’t appear to have too much pent-up hostility between each other as it was a fairly solid hockey game.
It was a pretty quiet game for the two teams until the dragon’s struck at 10:06 into the first period where Aldworth got a feed to slip into the open net. Very few other moments happened throughout the first period. The dragons took that 1-0 lead into the intermission.
The second period briefly started off slow much like the first period. However, this period it took a lot less time for the dragons to find the net with Jmaeff sticking a puck in the goal at 2:53 into the period. The dragons started to gain a lead as Kelly was able to snipe a shot into the net at the 8:02 mark into the second period. The period would end with the dragons have a 3-0 advantage.
The period would start off slow like the first period or even the last half of the second period. The dragons would manage to fire up their fans and score in the third period. This would start with Wickline slipping one past the line at the 7:56 mark. Wickline would strike again at 10:50 which put him on a hat-trick alert. Kelly wouldn’t let his teammate be the only one on hat-trick alert as he would get a goal at 15:15 into the period. King would also manage to find the net at 18:21 in the period.
Something impressive is four goals in the third period with two members of the same team being on hat-trick alert. That isn’t what made this game impressive but rather the score of 7-0. This game made history for the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) with Colgan making his sixth shutout for the season. That is a new league record for most shutouts in a single season. That isn’t the only record that Colgan holds with the FPHL as he had four consecutive shutouts earlier in the season.
