Prohockeynews.com gives assist to local charity hockey game

ALBUQUERQUE, NM   – For the third year in a row members of the prohockeynews.com staff and ownership group gathered to help support a charity hockey game in New Mexico.   This year’s event was held in Albuquerque at the Outpost Ice Arena .   The game featured the New Mexico IceHoles  versus a composite team of the Albuquerque Police and Albuquerque Fire Departments.

“Anytime we can lend a hand in conducting these games or help in fundraising we will be there,” PHN publisher and IceHoles’ defenseman Lou Lafrado said.

The August charity game was conducted to benefit Albuquerque’s Family Advocacy Center .   The Center was established as a safe environment for families in crisis from intimate partner violence and provides a “one-stop” location supported by 14 different organizations that help both adult and child victims of violence.   All services are free to the users and each is selectable by the family.   Services include counseling, child protective services, legal services, forensic interviews, and medical examinations among others.

“The Family Advocacy Center serves a critical need in the state and we are pleased to offer this support to the Center and the game,” PHN

director of marketing and IceHoles’ defenseman Bill Sommers said.   “We have a commitment to hockey and the local community and this is a great program that we are honored to get behind.”

The New Mexico IceHoles team was co-sponsored by the NM Hockey League   in Albuquerque which supplied players and support for the game.

“We’ve been working with the IceHoles and Lou (Lafrado) for five years on a number of charity projects and we were happy to help out on the Family Advocacy Center too,” NM Hockey League’s commissioner Joe Hanson said.   “We support each other on many of these types of events and this game was a great addition to the list.”

The APD/AFD composite team was organized by Captain Mike Geier of the Albuquerque Police Department and commander of the Center.

“We have one objective,” Geier said.   “We are here to help families in crisis and get them the support they seek and respond to their immediate and long-term needs.   We are grateful to all of our sponsors for their support.”

Former New Mexico Scorpion players and current Albuquerque firemen Matt Barnes and Clint Wensley were coaches for the APD/AFD team.

The final score in the game itself was 8-4 in favor of the APD/AFD team.

The event raised an estimated $5,000 for the Family Advocacy Center which was the real winner on the night. For more information on the Center visit www.abqfamily.org .

Advertisement The $5000 dollars raised will go a long way to helping people in need. An online sports blog is a great way of getting involved in not just sports but charity events too. US sports betting has been a great provider to charitable institutions over the years, and if you win big at NHL betting then you can contribute even more.   Either way, well done to all involved.
