Pride and Six meet for the first time

Neither the Pride nor the Six’s opening weekends went exactly according to plan. The Pride dropped an emotional 2-1 loss against the Minnesota Whitecaps, and the Six lost both of their games in heartbreaking fashion.

Both teams have something to prove going into Tuesday’s game, and tonight’s contest is sure to be a fun one to watch.

These are two teams that are deadly on both offense and defense. This is a game you’re going to want to tune into.

Here’s what to watch heading into tonight’s contest:

Toronto still looking for a W

Despite a much-improved performance on Sunday, the Six are still looking for their first NWHL win. Though neither outcome has been what they’re looking for, the Six don’t seem worried about their back-to-back losses.

Hockey is often a game of inches, and the bounces haven’t gone Toronto’s way in their first couple of games. A diving save here, a hit post there – the Six could very easily have picked up a win in at least one of their games.

That said, it’s only a matter of time for Toronto. Their power play is clicking, and the team’s transition game has been improving too. The Six are still a very dangerous team, and if Boston underestimates them, it will be at their own peril.

Boston’s focus

Boston came into the NDubble with one goal, and one goal only – the Isobel Cup. Never mind Jillian Dempsey’s historic 100 point milestone on Sunday, or Sammy Davis’ first  NWHL goal – this is a team focused on working together, one game at a time, to earn a spot in the Isobel Cup Final.

Boston was one game away from a chance to win the Isobel Cup last year before the pandemic brought an abrupt halt to the championship. After nearly a year with no hockey, the Pride is hungry for redemption, and despite their loss against Minnesota, they’re clearly still one of the favorites.High-flying offense

This game is going to be a fun one, in part because Toronto and Boston have two of the best offenses in the league.

For the Pride, there’s no shortage of NWHL All-Stars who have made a name for themselves: McKenna Brand, Christina Putigna, Jillian Dempsey, Kaleigh Fratkin…the list goes on and on.

Putigna got on the board early in Saturday’s game, while Dempsey lit up the Beauts on Sunday night. With Brand and Davis looking strong so far, there’s a lot to like for Boston’s offense.

It’s the same for the Six, who have shown their potential after getting shut out in their first game. Captain Shiann Darkangelo, Mikyla Grant-Mentis, Breanne Wilson-Bennett, Brooke Boquist, Emma Woods – all have proven themselves to be dangerous scoring threats.

That said, both teams also have top-notch goaltenders; Lovisa Selander for the Pride and Elaine Chuli for the Six. What happens when you put two of the best offensive teams in women’s hockey against two extremely talented goaltenders? You’ll have to tune in tonight to find out.
