In Montreal, Carey Price set the wins record for Canadiens goalies with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Detroit Red Wings.
Price made 20 saves to get his 315th career win with the Habs.
“I’m very proud, obviously, first and foremost, to be standing here today with this puck in my hand,” Price said. “I’m thankful for all the help that I’ve gotten along the way.”
Max Domi had two strikes for the Habs and Brett Kulak added a single marker in the win.
“(Price is) the best in the world for a reason; he has been for a long time and he will be for even a longer time,” Domi said. “So it’s a pretty special night for him. We’re happy to be a part of it.”
Montreal pushed its record to 37-26-7.
“With his record-breaking win aside, that’s a huge win for our team and we needed that and he’s a huge part of that,” Domi said.
The Canadiens are tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Andreas Athanasiou had the lone goal for the Wings.
“You want to make sure your effort is there on a nightly basis, and the last two games I felt like we lost a lot of 1-on-1 battles and we were a step behind a little bit all over the ice,” Detroit’s Justin Abdelkader said. “They’re a good skating team. I thought we skated well and the (defense) had good gaps.”

Jonathan Bernier made 33 saves in the loss.
“Overall, I thought our compete level was much higher,” Bernier said. “It comes down to the scoring chances they had, and Carey made some big saves there in the third. We had the chance to tie it up and we just couldn’t find back of the net.”
