The Montreal Canadiens are 9-0-1 to the start the season and can, large part, thank Carey Price for their success.
Wednesday night Price stopped 42 shots in a 3-0 shutout of the Vancouver Canucks in Montreal.
“For sure we’re proud of it,” Price said of the record. “I think everybody was disappointed the way we finished last year and we wanted to get off to a hot start this year and prove that we’re still a good hockey team. That’s exactly what we got.”
Nathan Beaulieu and Torrey Mitchell scored in the second period and Alexander Radulov added an empty net goal for the Habs offense.
Ryan Miller took the loss on 19 saves.
“It’s tough when you’re not seeing the pucks end up where we need them to at the other end,” Miller said. “We got some good looks, Price played well. It’s like you need the puck to go an extra foot or two for a clean shot, and it’s not quite working out for us on that end.”
After their own fast start to the season the Canucks have fallen back to earth with a 4-5-1 record and are having issues putting the puck in the net and even worse their defense is now struggling.
“You have to stay with your process, you don’t have any choice. You have to create shots, and I thought we had a better effort tonight creating shots,” Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins said. “I would believe if we played like that every night we’ll win our share of games, so that’s what we have to believe.”
