Price, Canadiens shutout Wild

In Montreal, Carey Price made 17 saves in perhaps one of his easiest shutouts in his career.  He backstopped the Canadiens Thursday night to a 4-0 shutout of the Minnesota Wild.

Price now has 45 shutouts in his career.

Victor Mete, Nick Suzuki and Joel Armia struck in the first period, in a span of less than five minutes, to remove any suspense form the outcome.

“We all knew that we could play better defensively, and I thought tonight we were reloading and getting in the shot lanes and doing all the right things,” Price said.

said.Brendan Gallagher made it 4-0 with an exclamation point in the third period.

“That was important,” Price said. “We knew that we can’t let off the throttle in this league because you see the scores around the League, it doesn’t take much to throw three in, so I thought we did a good job of staying on the gas pedal.”

For Mete and Suzuki, the goals were their first NHL strikes.

“I think everyone in here is ecstatic for [Mete],” Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber said. “I mean, [Nick Suzuki] too, he’s obviously excited to score his first goal, a nice one on the back door there. They’re a couple of guys that are hopefully going to get a lot more for us here and help us down the season stretch.”

“Our execution right now is nowhere near where it needs to be,” Minnesota coach Bruce Boudreau said.

Alex Stalock made 29 saves in the loss as the Wild dropped to 1-6-0.

“They’re all getting mad at themselves on the bench. They want to do well,” Boudreau said. “This is a group that wants to win for the team, and for the city, and for everything, but things aren’t going well. And so they’re complicated by, some are trying too hard, doing things that, maybe instead of simplifying things, they’re just trying to do too much, like trying to deke out four guys instead of getting it and moving it, and simple plays.”
