Predators take two in Chicago

In Chicago, the Blackhawks rallied with two goals from Alex DeBrincat  in the third period to tie their match with the Nashville Predators on Sunday night.

In the game the Hawks needed, Roman Josi broke the tie and their hearts with the game-winning goal with 6:33 left on the clock.

“It was a really nice play by [Viktor Arvidsson and Tolvanen], a lot of passes [to set me up],” Josi, said “I just kind of walked in and I was thinking low blocker the whole time and luckily it went post and in.”

Pekka Rinne made 27 saves in the win.

Nashville has now won five straight.

“I really liked the focus level, the grittiness, the work ethic that we play with and the commitment to play the game that we need to play to have success,” Predators coach John Hynes said. “Guys do it and I think that’s a tribute to the players.”

Chicago dropped to 16-15-5.

“We did a good job at coming back, but we’ve got to stick with it [and] be able to hold that tie to the end or battle and get another [goal],” DeBrincat said. “I think we had a lot of momentum there and just one small breakdown that they scored on.”

Arvidsson and Calle Jarnkrokk scored in the first period to give the Predators their 2-0 lead.

Chicago was scoreless on three power play chances.

“Our penalty kill has done an amazing job, and obviously the goalies have been good,” Josi said. “They made some key saves, but every play that’s out there, we’re blocking shots, we’re getting in passing lanes, so really good job by the penalty kill.”

Malcolm Subban made 28 saves in the loss.

“Disappointed in the response at the beginning of the first period, just understanding how big the game was,” Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said. “It was too easy for them to create chances, and on the flip side they did a good job of keeping us to the outside and getting in between us and the net [with] hard pressure all over the ice.”
