In Nashville Monday night, the Predators brought the Winnipeg Jets back to earth in a 5-3 win.
Five different skaters scored for the Preds including Kevin Fiala, Mattias Ekholm, Nick
Bonino, Ryan Johansen, and Kyle Turris.
“I thought we played well,” Ekholm said. “They’re a good team. It was an even hockey game, 1-1 (after the first period) I think was probably a good result for both teams. And then we got out in the second, and we just stepped on the gas I feel like. They looked tired, and we just kept coming at them.”
Mathieu Perreault had two strikes in the loss for the Jets who saw their five-game streak come to an end.
“We got in the [penalty] box, that’s a problem for us,” Jets coach Paul Maurice said. “And then some self-inflicted wounds on the penalty kill, things that we didn’t need to chase or turnovers that we can’t have. And then at the end, our gap was off a little bit.”
Pekka Rinne made 32 saves to get the win.
Tyler Myers also scored for the Jets.
“You know what, we’ve been pretty darn consistent after our first two that we started the season. We’ve had a couple that you don’t like. Every team’s got that. We’ve been pretty resilient in games, but I’d say we’ve been pretty consistent,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice said of the Jets’ season to date.
