Predators get 4-1 win in Montreal

In Montreal, Sunday night, the visiting Nashville Predators picked up a 4-1 road win over the Canadiens.

Craig Smith struck twice for the Preds and Mattias Ekholm added a goal and two points.

Juuse Saros made 27 saves in the win.

Shea Weber scored the only Habs’ goal in the loss.

“They played last night, and they came out with a better effort to start the game and caught us sleeping a little bit, and then it was a little bit too late,” Weber said.

The Canadiens dropped to 22-15-5 with the loss.

Weber’s goal was followed 18 seconds later by SMith’s second of the game.

“In terms of responses, that was probably the one that meant [the most] so far this year just because we’re coming off a tough game and you have a two-goal lead,” Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. “They close it and you immediately go down and score a goal, so that’s really important, and [Smith] had just a super-strong game.”

Viktor Arvidsson scored an empty-goal to seal the win.

Carey Price made 28 saves in the loss.

“You can’t just come in and think you can come in and just play,” Montreal head coach Claude Julien said. “You’ve got to play with a purpose, and you’ve got to play with an edge, and you’ve got to want to be better than the other team, and that wasn’t the case tonight.”
