In Nashville, the Predators’ Tanner Jeannot scored at 5:28 of the third period to give them a 2-1 lad over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.
“It feels really good, a little bit of weight lifted off the shoulders,” Jeannot said. “But my focus has been the same going into every game; it’s doing everything I can to help the team win, and if I can do that in other ways other than scoring, I do my best to do that as well. But it’s always nice to get on the board, and hopefully we can keep it going.”
Juuse Saros, who made 32 saves, made that goal stand up for the win.
“It’s nice to see what our group looks like when we are playing the right way,” Nashville coach John Hynes said. “We’re in the position where we’re continuing to fight for wins and move up in the standings, and I think if we continue to build on what we’ve built the last two games, we give ourselves a really good chance.”
The Predators improved to 23-18-6.
Winnipeg took a 1-0 lead 48 seconds into the the first period on a strike by Pierre-Luc Dubois.
“We played hard for the most part,” Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said. “We just let up when we shouldn’t have, and they didn’t. Their goalie made some huge saves for them, our goalie made some huge saves for us. It certainly wasn’t a 2-1 game in terms of offensive opportunity for either team.”
The Jets dropped to 31-17.
“We had our chances, they had theirs,” Jets forward Cole Perfetti said. “You know, hit a couple of crossbars late and we created lots, had a lot of great chances. I think, a couple of self-inflicted wounds and things we’d like to clean up. We know we can do better, but I think all four lines worked really hard.
“That was a long road trip. I think the guys are really tired and battled through. I think we deserved a better outcome but, at the same time, their goalie played great. They played a good game. Yeah, it was a good hockey game.”
Nashville tied it, 1-1, in the middle frame on a marker form Cody Glass.
“Yeah, that was a good feeling,” Glass said. “Playing with [Matt Duchene and Filip Forsberg], I probably should have had three or four tonight. But I was lucky to get the tying goal.”
Connor Hellebuyck made 39 saves in the loss.
