Predators defeat Lightning, 4-1

In Tampa Sunday, the Lightning lost their game with the Nashville Predators and may have lost their star, Steve Stamkos, to an injury.

Stamkos left the game in the middle frame on a defensive play in from the Bolts’ net.

Juuse Saros made 29 saves to pick up the 4-1 win for Nashville.

Filip Forsberg struck twice in the win.

“It’s a big win and a good test for us going up against one of the best teams in the League,” Forsberg said. “This is the way it’s going to be in the playoffs, especially on the road, so it was good.”

Craig Smith and Ryan Johansen also scored for the Predators.

“Obviously, our effort wasn’t good enough last night, and we got the result that we deserved, and today it was complete opposite. Really good effort. Goalies, D, everyone was there to play, and yeah, we got the same result that we deserved as well,” Forsberg said after the game.

Ondrej Palat scored the lone Lighting goal.

“For 50 minutes, I thought we did a lot of good things,” Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said. “I think we got a little frustrated when they got those two (goals) pretty quick in the third. It was too bad because we were really leaning on them for the last half of the second period.”

The Lighting trail the Boston Bruins by two points for the Atlantic Division title.

“We don’t like to lose games, that’s bottom line. We want to win every game, but we are looking at the big picture, and hopefully there is two or three months left in the season. We want to play the right way, and I like the way we played in the first two periods and that’s what we will take with us,” Tampa’s Victor Hedman said after the game.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 21 saves in taking the loss.

“I thought it was a close-checking game, but I thought we have a lot of opportunities, a lot of chances,” the Lightning’s Ryan Callahan said. “I liked our time in their end. They ended up getting that third one and fourth one pretty quickly and that took the wind out of our sails.”
