Predators blow lead, lose in OT

In Raleigh, Jordan Staal‘s second goal of the game came in extra time to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 3-2 win over the visiting Nashville Predators on Tuesday night.

“I looked over and didn’t see much for a pass,” Staal said. “I thought I had a decent angle to get a good shot. It went in, so I’m happy with that one.”

Alex Nedeljkovic made 21 saves for the win.

Matt Benning and Ryan Johansen had scored for the Predators to give them a 2-0 lead before the Canes reeled off three straight goals for the win.

“I thought we played a really solid road game,” Johansen said. “We did a lot of good things with a lot of key guys out of our lineup. … I thought we were the better team in 5-on-5 play throughout the game. That’s the way it goes sometimes, but I loved our guys’ effort and compete tonight.”

Another blown multi-goal lead in the NHL this season.

“The way [Staal] plays is kind of the reason we’re where we’re at right now.” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “It’s infectious. He’s the reason why tonight we won.”

Sebastian Aho also scored for the Hurricanes in regulation.

“I think it’s a good sign to win on tough nights,” Aho said. “We’re a pretty deep team, and [Nedeljkovic] gave us a chance to win. Obviously, the power play got us back in the game.”

Pekka Rinne made 32 saves in the loss.
