A final-period fightback proved just in vain for Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays as they fell to a 3-2 defeat to Fife Flyers at Hull Arena.
Stingrays, who won 6-3 in Fife on Saturday night, trailed 2-0 by the end of the first period with goals from Matt Reber (11.58) and Chris Wands (15.59).
After a goalless middle session, Carl Lauzon got Stingrays back in the game with a powerplay marker at 49.58.
Ned Lukacevic restored Flyers’ two-goal lead on the powerplay at 55.23 before Stingrays hit the post twice on a late powerplay through Lauzon and player-coach Omar Pacha.
Eric Galbraith made it a one-goal game at 58.55 after Stingrays pulled goaltender David Brown but they were unable to force overtime
Pacha said: “It was extremely disappointing, especially after the result in Fife.
“As much as our powerplay won us the game last night, it cost us tonight. To be 1/11 is atrocious. We were soft and we did not compete.
“The performance was not good enough. To come out like we did in the first period was not acceptable. We have to come out hard, we have to come out strong – we have to be better than that.
“We did generate some chances and their goalie played well but that’s three games at home we are saying the same thing. It’s getting frustrating because we want to win in front of our own fans.”
