Port Huron’s Julian Fraser; full tilt

Julian 1  PORT HURON, MI:  It’s a long bus ride home for Julian Fraser.

“We got stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey,” said Fraser.  Fuming over the officiating in a game against the Danbury Titans that dealt the Prowlers their first loss in almost a month, PHN was fortunate to get a little of the steam he was letting off.

“Jay Pietrasiak scored a goal that was disallowed,” Julian continued.  “Then a shot on our goaltender (Andy) DiCristofaro hit the cross bar and deflected out. They ruled it a goal.”

A 6′ 3″ native of Calgary, AB, Fraser is a tilt-loving, hard-core defenseman.  “I’m not really an enforcer,” said Fraser. “I am a hockey player that protects his teammates, that’s all.  I play more than an enforcer would.  We are team tough; everyone protects everyone. (Ryan) Devine, (Jay) Kenney, (Roger) Tagonna; we all kind of share the duties. We take care of the heavies of the league.”

Julian 3In his FHL debut season of 2012-2013, Fraser put up 189 PIMs along with 6 goals and 14 assists, ironically in Danbury.  He played 3 seasons for the Whalers before coming to Port Huron last October, where he has tallied 1 goal along with 8 assists and 78 PIMs as of game 22.

“I love my fans everywhere I go,” Julian said. “Even the people that cheer against me.  It’s what makes the game fun and exciting!  I know the fans in Danbury are a little sour because I compete when I come to town. Me and Devine both played in Danbury last year, so beating them just makes it that much better.”

It also makes losing that much more painful, especially on a night of questionable calls in which Prowler’s coach Trevor Karasiewicz incurred four penalties for abuse of officials.

“Everyone here in Port Huron will protect anyone,” said Fraser.  It’s what protecting a team is all about.  It’s what I do, and I’ll continue doing it until I have a ring on my finger.”
