Port Huron sweeps Danbury; wins 2015-2016 Commissioner’s Cup

Champions 2  PORT HURON, MI – The Port Huron Prowlers are the 2015-16 Commissioner’s Cup Champions behind a stellar performance from Dan McWhinnney who made 38 saves on 39 shot attempts.
The first period would belong to the Prowlers, as Chris Leveille would net his 2nd goal and 11th point of the playoffs with assists from Ahmed Mahfouz and Len Pelletier almost 9 minutes into the 1st. Almost nine minutes later Jared Hicks would record his first goal of the finals from Dustin Skinner and Roger Tagoona. That’s how the 1st period would end; Prowlers up 2-0 with McWhinney stopping all 14 Titan attempts at the net.

At 1:50 into the 2nd period it was John Scortia cutting the lead in half and putting Danbury behind only one goal. For the remaining 18:10 of the period however, Danbury would stay behind by the same deficit as both goaltenders would be perfect the rest of the way. Nikita would stop all nine Prowler shots, keeping his team within a goal at the end of the 2nd.
In the third period the only goal scored was an empty netter from Ahmed Mahfouz that iced the series and the season and the Port Huron Prowlers are your 2015-16 Commissioners Cup Champions. Dan McWhinney would receive the Commissioners Cup Finals M.V.P. with 46 saves in game 1, 43 saves in game 2, and 38 saves in game 3.
