PHILADELPHIA, Pa- Much has been of late of the Philadelphia Flyers and their late season swoon of sorts. The elixir to recover from their doldrums may well have been the New York Islanders. The Isles have been something of a disappointment over the last few seasons based on draft picks and acquisition of highly ranked young stars. None of which have led to a climb up the divisional ladder and the post season.
The 7-4 final was in dispute until Scott Hartnell scored late in the third to ice the game. While the Isles never seriously threatened the Flyers’ lead, the crowd and club were nervous nonetheless based on recent history.
So, Philadelphia enters the post season on a winning note but remain a question mark as they seem unable to protect leads.
