Fife, Scotland: After landing in Edinburgh, Scotland and checking in to the team hotel, it was a relatively short bus ride to Fife, to play the Kirkcaldy Kestrels in game one of the USA Military’s tour of the United Kingdom.
After a jet lagged first period, that saw the U.S. team go down 4-0, the team started to get their legs back and fought hard till the end of the game, while falling 5-2. Keep in mind these 20 young men had only played one game together back in November, and it took time for them to get to the “One Team, One Fight” mantra that Coach Ed Courtenay had been preaching.
The game started with a jersey exchange between the teams and a ceremonial face off. After the game ended, the awards for each teams “Man of the Match” were handed out and a photo was taken that included both teams at center ice. Dinner was then served to the teams and the family members in attendance.
