TOLEDO, Ohio – Michael Leone picked up a goal for the Walleye but Toledo was bested 3-1 by the Evansville IceMen Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 41-17-2-3 and 24-7-0-1 on home ice.
Evansville struck first at 10:49 of the first period when Ryan Perry tipped a rebound past Jeff Lerg. Toledo would even the score in the second period as Michael Leone (7th) ripped a wrist shot into the back of the Evansville net at 9:47. Tyler Maxwell and Dajon Mingo picked up the assists on Leone’s goal.
Jordan Sims capitalized just 31 seconds into the third period to put the IceMen up for good at 2-1. Evansville was able to snag an empty net goal at the 18:51 mark to cap the scoring.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced and his record is 26-8-1-2 on the season. The Walleye were out shot in the game 29-26. Toledo’s post season means that for the first time in Walleye history Toledo heads to the playoffs in back to back years.
