JACKSONVILLE, FLA – On Wednesday, December 1st, the Jacksonville Icemen and Orlando Solar Bears began a home-and-home set of games at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena. It was a very good night for the home team as Icemen goalie and New York Rangers prospect Tyler Wall stopped all 23 shots he faced as Jacksonville shutout Orlando 5-0.
A very tightly played first period saw just one goal scored. It came in the dying seconds of a Jacksonville power play when Luke Lynch found Derek Lodermeier all alone in front of the Orlando net. Lodermeier had plenty of time to make a couple of stick moves before lifting a backhand shot past Solar Bears goalie Zach Emond. For Lodermeier, it was his third goal of the season
The second frame was all Icemen as they picked up a trio of goals. First came Jake Elmer (fourth goal of year) when he redirected a shot by Jacob Friend into the cage 3:09 in. Next was Craig Martin (sixth goal of season, who took a feed from Travis Howe and lit the goal light at the 9:33 mark. The final tally came off the stick of Jacob Pinetta (second goal of season) when he got control of the puck after a scramble in front and put it home.
Only one goal was scored in the final period. It came at the 4:25 mark when Christopher Brown set up James Sanchez off of a two-on-one break.
The shutout for Wall was his first professional shutout.
