TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Oilers added a late empty-netter and defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-3 Wednesday night at BOK Center.
Tulsa improved to 7-1 on the season, while Utah dropped to 5-2.
Erik Higby pulled the Grizzlies within one with 6:19 left in regulation as rookie defenseman Brian Cooper led the Grizzlies ahead in his first game with Utah. Utah continued the pressure late but missed the net on their best chance in the final two minutes.
Tulsa took a 4-2 lead with a redirection off of a face-off 8:30 into the period as Jiri Frank finished off his hat trick.
Tied 1-1 after one, the Grizzlies took a 2-1 lead 2:23 into the second period on a goal by Austen Brassard as Carlos Amestoy fed him in front. Ralph Cuddemi also added an assist.
Tulsa took a 1-0 lead 5:34 into the contest before Brandon McNally tied things up on his second goal of the season as he had a wide open net after a shot deflected off of a face-off win. Mathieu Aubin and Phil Pietroniro picked up assists on the goal scored in the final five minutes of the first period.
Utah outshot Tulsa 37-30 in the game. Goaltender Ryan Faragher suffered his first loss of the season.
