PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Tulsa hands Idaho 5-2 loss Saturday night

TULSA, Okla. – On Saturday night at the BOK Center, the Tulsa Oilers claimed a decisive 5-2 victory over the Idaho Steelheads, captivating the crowd of 16,018 in attendance.  It was Scooby Doo Night with special jerseys for the home team.

In the opening period, Yaroslav Yevdokimov notched a crucial goal, tipping a puck through Bryan Thomson’s legs with just 1:55 remaining. Tulsa outshot Idaho 12-7 in the first period, establishing an early 1-0 lead.

The second period saw the Oilers extending their lead to 2-0 at 12:17 with a goal from Bair Gendenov. However, the Steelheads responded with two quick goals to even the score at 2-2. Patrick Kudla found the back of the net at 13:55, showcasing his skill from the far side of the goal line. Willie Knierim then scored on the power-play 2:55 later, tying the game. Tulsa didn’t let the tie last long, as Alec Butcher netted a goal with 1:46 remaining in the period, giving the Oilers a 3-2 lead. Shots favored Idaho 18-17 in the second period.

The third period continued to be fruitful for Tulsa, with Yaroslav Yevdokimov scoring his second goal at 8:44, extending the lead to 4-2. Jared Hilderman sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, securing the 5-2 win for the Oilers.

In the goaltending battle, Bryan Thomson made 38 saves on 42 shots in the losing effort, while Julian Junca turned aside 28 of the 30 shots he faced, contributing to Tulsa’s triumph. The night belonged to the Oilers as they celebrated a well-earned victory over the Idaho Steelheads.
